O vice-governador Orlando Pessuti esteve reunido neste domingo (28), em Curitiba, com empresários europeus interessados em apoiar o Estado do Paraná em suas ações contra os transgênicos. O grupo foi liderado pelo presidente da Associação de Usuários e Distribuidores de Agroquímicos na Europa (Audace), Daniel Roques.

Para o presidente da Audace, os transgênicos representam a perda da independência alimentar, econômica e política.

Seminis eyes Brazilian expansion :  

Monsanto's fruit and vegetable seed subsidiary, Seminis, is planning to expand its Brazilian operations and has not ruled out the possibility of investing in genetically modified varieties. "We want to stay open to all technologies, including biotechnology, that can provide benefits to our customers and if in the future it makes sense from a business, regulatory and environmental perspective, we will consider them," a Seminis spokesperson told Agrow. Seminis' Brazilian sales were $15 million in 2004, and the company plans to increase annual revenues in the country by 60% over the next five years. In 2005, Seminis was acquired by Monsanto for $1,400 million (Agrow No 465, pp 1-2). GM seeds currently account for just 1% of Seminis' production.
